On cinco de mayo ‘whitdog’ ventured onto the streets of LB to check out a band at potentially the divest dive bar of all time…
Their name is Head Like a Kite, on a tour of the west coast, coming all the way from Seattle, WA. This two-man band uses a mix of pure musical talent (one guitar and a drum set) adding in innovative and interesting elements of sound. Together they put on a show like no other I have seen including elements like a fog machine and a dancing panda. Knowing nothing about them at the time, things that stuck out to me was the use of an old telephone as a microphone and also how much finesse is needed to create this incredible music.
After the show I was able to chat with Dave and Trent and told them how impressed I was with their show. The super humble guys were great to talk to and I could tell how passionate they are about their music. They talked to me about how much work it really takes to do what they do, but also how much they love it. Their main goal: getting people to dance! (Which I definitely did…with the guy dressed in the panda suit.)
Anyways, long story short this band ROCKS and I can only hope they continue to do so.
